The tale of my almost-broken butt bone
AKA: what I’ve been up to in August. I had a bit of a Time Out from the blog, and from social media as a whole, while I geared up to do some more writing. But I think I’m back now. All recharged and stuff! Here’s what I’ve been doing:
Yeah… This blog post is so exciting, isn’t it? Sorry. But I have. I have this wild and wacky idea that I can hike one of the scariest trails in the world next March, so I’ve been training for that. I went to the Isle of Man and did three walks in three days, and it was lovely. I also got a bike…
… but then I preceded to fall over my own stupid socks at the top of the stairs and almost break my butt bone, so I’ve been struggling to sit down for the last three weeks, let alone ride my bike. So August has mostly consisted of:
- Wincing whenever I get up/down,
- Crawling out of my seat a stop earlier on the train so I can exit on time and not scare any children with my stricken face,
- Standing up to eat my dinner,
- Screaming whenever I sneeze,
- Sitting on a stupid donut thing when at my desk.
Oh! And I had hayfever. So that sure was FUN!
Aside from my butt antics, I also worked a whole hell of a lot, doing the last few weddings of the season as a wedding photographer. I’ve had such a good run this year, and loved it. I’m determined to take it more seriously next year, rather than just coasting on word of mouth. So, ya know… if you know anyone who needs a wedding photographer in the UK, I’m super fun and I promise I won’t even sneeze-yelp at any inappropriate moments or anything.
So I’ve been networking and website building (www.makelifememorable.co.uk) and booking wedding fairs, and all that lovely-but-time-consuming stuff.
(If anyone ever tells you it’s fun to work three jobs? They’re totes lying. FYI.)
And finally… I have got precisely 80k words left to write before I reach my 1 million written manuscript words!! I’m so proud of myself! It is a goal I’ve been working on quite literally for the best part of a decade.
I’ve been plotting a YA mystery, which is already pulling on my heart strings. I was totes planning it for Nanowrimo in November, but I already started and I’ve accidentally written 12k already. Oopsy!
Other writing things: I sent my wonderful agent my latest finished manuscript. Lots of nail biting has ensued since. It’s a different genre than I’ve ever written before so it’s either going to be a wondrous triumph, or a hot mess. I change my mind on that about once every thirty minutes. It’s a writer thing.
OH! OH! RIGHT! One of the weddings was at a frickin’ CASTLE in WALES and I met loads of lovely peacocks and I MADE A PEACOCK FRIEND! That made my month, to be honest!
August has been fun. Aside from the bum pain.
