So I’m doing one of the most dangerous hikes in the world…


Me. Yes, me.

Really.

Let’s start from the beginning. I’m going to Vegas again in March 2017, for my 30th birthday (ARRRGH and EUGHHHH by the way; how did I get this old?!) and we’re going to do a road trip to Zion National Park.

We did this the first time, back in 2011, and absolutely loved the place, so we’ve decided to stay a bit longer this time around and booked a sooper cool cabin.

So. Remember my obsessive personality? I started researching things to do. A lot. And my heart got set on this one ridiculous hike. You may have heard of it. Angels Landing.

Arrrgh! I watched a YouTube video on it and got so instantly excited I knew immediately that I HAD to do it. The views at the top are to die for.

(Sort of literally. But it isn’t TOO bad. Only ten people have died on this hike so far, and there’s literally hundreds of people a day doing it. So I guess the odds are forever in my favour?)

It’s OK if you’re scratching your head right about now. I get that. I know I’m… er…. unfit, to put it lightly. But. BUT! I have ten whole months to get ready for this! I’m so very motivated.

I am also aware that I might be biting off more than I can chew. I am aware of altitude and fitness and stamina and HEAT — did I mention the heat?! — and I may fail miserably. But, I think maybe that’s fine. So long as I do all that I can in the next ten months, I’ll be OK with that. Probably.

(Probably not. I’m totes doing it.)

So here’s my plan: stop being a hummus-and-beer-based vegan and actually be a healthy vegan for once.

Hammer the stairs in work thrice daily. Now, this sounds quite daft but there are 4 huge floors, with 4 staircases each, so… um… that’s 16 flights of stairs, 128 steps each time, 384 steps a day extra that my fat arse wasn’t doing before. Every little helps, right? That’s like walking up the Empire State building once a month. Just really effing slowly.

Also: long walks after work with the dogs and the husbind and the friends.

Big hill walk/hike type things at least once a month come rain or shine. This one has been so much fun! We walked up to Lake Elsi in Betws Y Coed in June. We’re planning Moel Famau for July. A three day Isle Of Man hill walking extravaganza in August, and a bloody big hill in Darwen in September.

Of course, all these walks probably won’t be as high. Or as warm. Or as strenuous… but dammit it’s a god damned start, isn’t it?! It’s a god damned start.

Added motivation: money. Me and my two besties are doing a diet bet. Ten quid each for ten months into the pot. Three stone each to lose. Anyone who doesn’t make the cut loses their money, and the rest get the share. If we all succeed we get our money back right before the holiday. If we all lose we’re going to donate it to charity. If one person succeeds, they get £300. BOOM with a side of YAY. Coz I’m not losing. NOPE. NOOOOPE. Not I.

So there it is in black and white. My goal for the next ten months! Along side my writing goals. And future travelling goals. And savings goals. And I’m writing this ridiculously early before work because I have blogging goals. And shhhh OK I know I have too many goals.
